Life

Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. Ecclesiastes 12:13 NIV

How are you living? Are you living with the end in mind? I believe one of the greatest tragedies in life is to have lived but not have experienced life. Solomon, the author of this great book instructs us on the true meaning of a life in Christ.

Unfortunately, I attended another funeral this weekend and it was tragic for several reasons 1) the nature of the death 2) his youth and 3) he left a wife and young daughter. What would be even more tragic is on the day of his reckoning - judgment - he discovers that He missed the mark...the life that God had ordained for him. Why? Because of "distractions"...frivolous pursuits and meaningless clutter.

The author writes that the conclusion of the matter (life) is simple - to fear God and obey His commands. He decrees that this as the whole duty of a man. What do you fear and who do you obey? In other words, what has enslaved you? Is it your passions, your approval addictions, your material possessions, fret over your singleness...the list is infinite. Even ministerial pursuits can, at times, be frivolous because of the motives of men's hearts. Living this life is truly a matter of understanding the requirements of our Lord. We find in Matthew 22:37 two commands - love God with all your heart, soul, mind and love your neighbor as yourself. All is fulfilled in these two commandments.

In conclusion...God made us. He redeemed us. And we owe the entirety of our life to Him. We are all living on borrowed time.

I hope this word has encouraged you to reexamine your priorities. Begin to take inventory of your days, weeks, months and years and measure them against this simple command. Do you fear God and obey Him alone?

Don't be condemned, be encouraged!
