Praise the Lord, you his angels, you mighty ones who do his bidding, who obey his word. Psalm 103:20
Angels are ministering spirits sent to serve the heirs of salvation (Hebrews 1:14). They primarily exist in the spiritual realm, but often manifest in our world for specific purposes. As Christians we are called to a life of faith which requires us to look beyond what is seen or experienced with our other senses - sound, taste, smell and touch. When Christ returns, at His (Christ) second coming, the invisible world will be unveiled.
The unseen world where angels exist actually sustains the world that we live in. In other words, the unseen world is more real and permanent than the world we see. Contrary to some beliefs, they are not a mystical figment of religious leaders imagination. The bible records several accounts of angels and the missions that they carry out - defender and messenger are just a few. An angel delivered the news to Mary, the mother of Jesus, that she would bear a child - Jesus Christ - Savior of the world.
I don't claim to know or understand all the mysteries of the unseen world, but I do know that we are surrounded by an angelic presence of heavenly host. I'm also certain that many of us have entertained angels unaware (Hebrews 13:2). Therefore we must be careful how we entreat strangers.
Still doubtful...consider the prophet Elisha as he was being pursued by the Aramean army. When surrounded by the horses and chariots of the Aramean king, his servant cried out in fear. Elisha responded that "those who are with us are more than those who are with them." And then he prayed " O Lord open his eyes so he may see" (2 Kings 6:15 - 17). Afterward the servant was able to see God's army of horses and chariots of fire surrounding them and the Aramean army.
My prayer is that your eyes would be opened to perceive God's angelic host. We are not alone in this world and our heavenly hosts are empowered to assist us. The opening scripture declares that angels are commissioned to move on our behalf at the declaration (speaking) of God's Word. Declare God's word, exalt it in your life and put your angels to work.
