The Lord had said to Abram, "Leave your county, your people and your father's household and to the the land I will show you." Genesis 12:1 NIV
Sometimes we have to leave to cleave. What is meant by this statement? In order for God to perfect in us the thing that He has called us to do, we must leave some familiar places, people and family. God instructed Abram to do three things: leave his country, people and father's household (family). Each of these areas represent something significant to him. If Abram had not obeyed, he would have forfeited the subsequent promise God made which was to make him a great nation and to bless all the people on earth through him God required Abram to operate in faith. He told him to go but did not tell him where to go ... only to a land that He would show him. This required tremendous faith. Where are you in your walk with God? Sometimes God request that we step out into unfamiliar territory without the support of familiar surroundings, family and friends. If we want to grow closer to God, we often have to sever our deepest times and move into the unknown. If you find yourself in this place today, be encouraged. God is near and He is ordering your steps. Don't be like the children of Israel who looked back and longed for the familiar; thereby, some never made it to the promise land. God is faithful! The place He has you in is a test of your faith....will you trust Him? Not intellectually, but with your whole heart. I have vowed that I will - join me as a member of the body of Believers. Be encouraged this week to step out, leave the familiar and cleave to Christ
