because a great door for effective work has opened to me, and there are many who oppose me. I Corinthians 16:9
Paul, in this scripture, conveyed to the Corinthians that many opportunities had been afforded him to preach the gospel in Macedonia and Ephesus. Clearly, he was excited. However, he quickly pointed out (in the same sentence mind you) that along with the opportunity were many who opposed him. Opportunity and opposition go hand in hand especially when advancing the kingdom of God. We must keep opposition in its proper perspective though.
It's interesting how the enemy attempts to discourage Believers (new convert, pastor, preacher, missionary, etc.) from not just completing, but starting a work for God. He's crafty and deceptive. Don't look for him to appear in the obvious places or people. He will masquerade himself and work through a friend, family member or trusted confidant. As Christians, we need to learn how to recognize his tactics. We must look beyond the person to acknowledge the spirit that is operating within them.
The enemy recently tried to discourage me from working in my church as well as with Called to Destiny ministries. I resisted the temptation to quit. Once I resisted him, he fled! In these last days, God is opening up unique doors for the ministry of Jesus Christ. As Christ ambassadors we must be courageous as we walk through them. When the enemy comes to discourage you (and he will come) don't quit. Don't be caught off guard either...expect it. I'd even caution you to refrain from looking in the faces of the people you minister to because he will work through them as well.
The end time harvest is ready and God has a great work for each of us to do. Be encouraged in your work for God. He has already declared our victory, we simply need to stand firm.
