Pray 2

Writer's picture: Gloria WigginsGloria Wiggins

Then Abraham approached him and said: "Will you sweep away the righteous with the wicked?...The Lord said, "If I find fifty righteous people in the city of Sodom, I will spare the whole place for their sake."...Then he said, "May the Lord not be angry, but let me speak just once more. What if only ten can be found there?" He answered, "For the sake of ten, I will not destroy it." Genesis 18:23, 26, 32

We live in a society that has fallen into severe moral decline. Take for example our presidential race. I believe this is more an issue of morality vs immorality than Democrat  versus Republican policy. Our nation is in crisis and we, the righteous people of God, are being called upon to come to its rescue.

Men and women of God…this is your finest hour! Forget about “your vote counts” rhetoric, your prayers count!  I don’t  mean to dismiss the importance of the vote only to emphasize the greater importance of our prayers. I urge each of you to exercise your right to vote. In the same vein, I admonish you to exercise your right and privilege to pray.

Don’t be dismayed by the atrocious events that you see today. If you do, fear will grip your heart and cause you to give into the temptation to join the naysayers.  Get on your knees and PRAY

The opening verse is set in the context of Abraham pleading for the wicked city of Sodom. In the bible, Sodom had fallen into gross immorality, much like America, thus God had decreed to destroy it. Abraham, being the man of God that he was, and knowing the character of God, questioned Him by asking  “Will you sweep away the righteous with the wicked?” Why was he so bold to ask God this question. Because he knew the character of God. He knows that He is just and that He spares His wrath for the sake of His righteous.

Christians…are you out there? God spares His wrath for the sake of His righteous. We are living in an unrighteous nation that is turning daily away from truth. It is time for the righteous one’s to stand up and be counted. God declares that His ear is attentive to the cry of the righteous. We need to begin to cry out for our nation.

God promises that He will deliver us out of our trouble. Well, our nation is in trouble. Be fervent and committed in your prayers and daily living. Pray daily for our nation and leaders. God loves His righteous ones and respond to our prayers. He declared to Abraham that he would not destroy the city if He found 10 righteous. In the end Sodom was destroyed because none was found righteous, but that doesn’t have to be America’s fate. I believe that America’s greatest threat is not outside her borders, but within.  The alarming rate of moral decline and spurred by irreverence for God and truth are the culprits. Truth is not a shade of grey. It is either black or white. Actually it is black and white with highlights of red if you are a King James Version reader. Truth is found in the pages of the bible.

This week I encourage you to take time out to pray for our country. I don’t care if you’re a Democrat or Republican, they both need prayer. As always…be encouraged because your prayer counts.
