Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken your first love. Revelation 2:4
This Truth Point challenges us to return to the foundation of our Christian faith - believing in the perfect work of Jesus Christ. Unquestionably this world is sin sick. Pause to examine the current state of affairs. We have an onslaught of sexual perversions, despondency, depression, anxiety, and an abandonment of Truth. The Word declares that in the last days that we will see this callousness of heart. Are we to despair or grow faint of heart...absolutely not! We are to hold fast with every fiber of our being to the tenets of our faith.
Shaken... pressed... perplexed and distraught from every side but we can't lose heart - God is yet faithful and He will perform His Word. The times we live in are disheartening to say the least. If you are a true Christian, you can't help but grow weary because Satan - our arch enemy - is out to destroy our confidence in God. He wants to persuade us that God is not faithful by manipulating our situations. Now is the time to return (as Revelation declares) to our first love. When you can't see the manifestation of God's faithfulness and faith is all that you have, you are still commanded to love God with all your heart, mind, and soul.
This highlights the danger of the prosperity preaching. The prosperity gospel teaches us to pursue things and not God. This teaching encourages us to imitate the world in it's worldly pursuits, but put a "god" label on it. Well, what happens when we aren't prospering? When we haven't received a manifestation of the things that we are believing for. When you loose your job even though you are a tither. When you fast and pray for your children and they still go astray. What happens then? Do you 'quit' God? Is He not still faithful and deserving of honor because of who He is? I believe the current despondency and break from the Christian faith is partially due to the unbalanced teaching of the prosperity gospel. Many Christians have become disillusioned because someone has sold them a bill of goods that didn't deliver.
I am that prophetic voice declaring that the Kingdom of God is at hand. The world (as we know it) is coming to an end. We must return to our first love and set our affections on eternal rewards. Be encouraged Saints!
