Servants

So then, men ought to regard us as servants of Christ and as those entrusted with the secret things of God. Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful. I Corinthians 4:1,2

How do you want to be regarded and/or esteemed by ‘men’? Do you want them to respect you as intelligent, knowledgeable, wealthy, someone who “has it all together”? Consider the Facebook phenomena that has taken the world – and Christians along with it – by storm. What images are we, Christians, portraying to gain the respect and admiration of men?  Be honest with yourself…does it have eternal or kingdom value?

We are cautioned in 2 Corinthians that only what we do for Christ will last…which speaks more to our motives than our actions. We are further encouraged to make it our goal to please Christ while in the body and not the lust of flesh. If we profess to be Christians, we are first and foremost servants of Christ which means that we are not our own but have been purchased with a price.

As servants we must prove faithful…not to the world or its’ dictates, but to God and God alone. Everyone – saved and sinners alike – seem to be looking for an audience and/or platform to demonstrate (or flaunt) their lifestyle. This explains the explosive success of social media – Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.  Rather than seeking the world stage, let’s strive to live before an audience of 1 – our Heavenly Father.

I encourage each of you to reflect on how you wish to be esteemed by men – is it as a servant of Christ? Don’t be condemned…be encouraged!
