For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for him, since you are going through the same struggle you saw I had, and now hear that I still have. Philippians 6:29,30.

As Christians we are called to be Christlike, not only to live a life pleasing to God, but also to live a life that reflect the mind of Christ. What was this mind? He came to die on our behalf. He wasn't afraid to suffer. In His brief stay here on earth - 33 years, Christ life was full of persecution. We should take on the same mindset. The Bible promises us that many are the afflictions of the righteous, but He will deliver us from them all. Suffering and persecution are a part of the Christian walk.
This is contrary to the prosperity preaching that is so prevalent in American society. Don't be fooled. Yes God desires for us to prosper and be in good health, but we've gotten out of balance. Financial prosperity is not the end goal. The end goal for this life is to be Christlike.
Godly suffering yields a harvest of righteousness. The scripture declares in Hebrews 5: 8 - Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered...The scripture is referring to Christ. Our pain has purpose. It is developing our character and the fruit of the Spirit. Furthermore, when we have the right attitude toward suffering, our lives are a testimony to others. I encourage you this week to meditate on this Word. Face every challenge in your life with a mind to bring glory to God.
