Trust

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; Proverbs 3:5

In these confusing and distressing times we’re all grasping for understanding of current events. The looming financial crisis, economy and presidential election are disconcerting at best.  Old adages of the past aren’t proving true such as work hard, invest your money, spend wisely and your financial future is secure – not so in these days. The Enron, WorldCom and Anderson consulting melt downs left many who had worked 20 years or more destitute. We want what the world can’t offer – guarantees for our success and happiness.

I heard someone say recently to trust God even when you can’t see His hand, trust His heart.  Some of us, in these times, are questioning God regarding the things that He is doing or allowing in our lives. You say, Father I served you well and was faithful over everything you gave me and yet I am still impoverished. You say that I prayed and prayed for my love one to be healed but he died anyway. I prayed that my husband would change and he didn’t and left me anyway…hmmm.

These are the times and the things that test men souls. It is in the wilderness that we discover who we really are and how faithful God really is. As did the children of Israel who spent 40 years in the desert trying to get to the promise land. God declared that he allowed them to be tested so that He could prove what was in their hearts. In these times our hearts will be revealed.

Be encouraged today to do as the scripture commands us. Whatever situation you are faced with don’t try to understand with your finite knowledge – trust a God that knows all and is not confined to this world, its systems or resources.

As I take in all that is occurring at a national and international level, I find myself at peace. Not at peace with the events, but at peace with God because I know that I am His and whatever He allows to come into my life – good or bad – it will not be more than I can bear.

I sincerely believe that, if we continue to trust God, somehow these events will unfold in such a way that the true people of God will arise unscathed. Then the world will see the distinction between those who serve God and those who do not. Be encouraged today in knowing that God holds your future.
